Background:
Tomola Marshal Obamuyi was born on 21st June, 1964, at Idi-Ogba, to the family of
Most Rev. Apostle Julius and Ayaba Esther Obamuyi.
He attended St. Paul's Anglican Primary School, Idi-Ogba (1971-1976) and Ilaje High
School Igbokoda (1979 - 1984). He proceeded to the Ondo State University, Ado-
Ekiti, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree (B.Sc. Hons.) in Banking and
Finance in 1990. Thereafter, he had his Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Finance in 1998
from the University of Lagos, and Master of Business Administration (MBA) and
Ph.D. Management Science from the Federal University of Technology, Akure
(FUTA), Nigeria in 1999 and 2005 respectively.
He started his teaching career as Graduate Assistant at the then Ondo State University,
Ado-Ekiti in April,1995. On 1st December, 2000, the relocation exercise of the
University took him to the Ondo State University, Akungba-Akoko (now Adekunle
Ajasin University), where he rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 2012.
When in the services of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, he
was, at different times, the Head, Department of Banking and Finance for twelve
years, and Director, Linkages and International Programmes Office of the University
for two years, and Chairman/member of many University Committees. The desire to
advance his career on a wider platform and to demonstrate the universality of
knowledge informed his joining FUTA on 1st April, 2015 as a Professor.
At the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), he was privileged to be
elected as the first substantive Dean, School of Management Technology, since 1st
October, 2015, and presently on second term, having been re-elected in August 2017
for two more years. He is also a Member of several Committees of the University. He
is the pioneering Editor-In-Chief of the FUTA Journal of Management and
Technology. He has been able to use his community engagement to attract some funds
to the School of Management Technology, The Federal University of Technology,
Akure, including the donation of a staff building by Prince (Chief) Rotimi Ibidapo,
and cash donations from His Royal Majesty, Air Vice Marshal Lucky Ochuko Ararile
(rtd), Avwaeke 1, Ovie of Umiaghwa-Abraka Kingdom, and Omooba Adeleke
Adedoyin Gbadebo. Also, he has been able to secure a promise from His Royal
Majesty, Oba Alayeluwa (Dr.) Francis A. Agbede, Ilufemiloye (Ogidi III), The Olowa
of Igbara-Oke Kingdom, to donate a building to the School.
Since appointed as a Professor, he has assisted in assessing many colleagues for
promotion to the professorial cadre. He has served as External Examiner to candidates
for M.Sc and Ph.D oral examinations in many Universities, including: University of
Kwazulu- Natal, Westville campus, South Africa; Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-
Ife; Covenant University, Ota; Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye; Redeemer's
University, Ede; Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti; Afe Babalola University, Ado-
Ekiti; among others. Professor Obamuyi also served as member of National
Universities Commission (NUC) programme Accreditation Teams to some Nigerian
Universities.

He has also contributed significantly in the areas of capacity building, administration
and community development. He has successfully supervised over 60 candidates at
Postgraduate Diploma, Masters and Ph.D levels.
His research activities over 23 years have richly enhanced the publication of over
seventy (70) articles in national and international Journals and his participation in
several international surveys/think-tanks/workshops. He is a member of the Nigerian
Team, Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), an international project coordinated
jointly by Babson College, USA and London Business School, UK. He is also the
Nigerian Representative, Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Students’ Survey
(GUESSS), University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. He has participated actively as
reviewer and presenter in many international conferences organised by the
International Council for Small Business (ICSB), with Headquarters in Washington
DC, USA. He was also privileged to be among the 80 participants drawn across the
globe to participate in the Transformational Entrepreneurship Think Tank, Coventry
University, United Kingdom in March, 2018. In all, he has been privileged to attend
and present papers, in many countries like Finland, United Kingdom, Canada,
Sweden, Ireland, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Ethiopia, India, United States of America,
among others. He is also a member of many other Professional Associations. He is an
Associate, the Nigerian Institute of Management; an Associate, Chartered Institute of
Marketing of Nigeria; Fellow, Company and Commercial Accountants of Nigeria;
Fellow, Institute of Corporate Affairs Management; and Fellow, Nigerian Society for
Financial Research.
He has received several travel grants for overseas trips from many international
organisations, including Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, Global Entrepreneurship
Research Association, Canadian International Development Agency, International
Development Research Centre and Swedish International Development Cooperation
Agency. He participated in the International Transformational Entrepreneurship
International Think Tank organised by the Coventry University, United Kingdom, in
March 2018.
He bagged the prestigious award of the "Best Professor of Banking and Finance in
Africa for 2015" by the Africa Education Leadership Awards, Mauritius, East Africa.
With regards to community service, he was and remains a Consultant on Manpower
Development to a number of agencies. He was the President of the Old Students'
Association of Ilaje High School, Igbokoda, and Marine Klub of Ilajeland. He was
the President of the Academic Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd, AAUA
Chapter. He is an Elder of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Worldwide.
Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi is a Professor of Finance and Entrepreneurship
and the Dean, School of Management Technology, the Federal University of
Technology, Akure. He delivered the 99th Inaugural Lecture of the University on 12th
June, 2018, titled: Finance, Entrepreneurship and Institutions: The Triple Helix for
Nigeria's Economic Growth (available on www.tomolaobamuyi.ng).
Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi is happily married with children.
